The 63rd Summer seminar in Bulgarian language and culture for foreign Bulgarian and Slavic scholars will take place from 12 July to 1 August 2026 at the Rectorate Building of Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski.

The seminar is organised by the Faculty of Slavic Philology of Sofia University with the financial support of the Ministry of education and science of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The programme is intended for teachers, researchers, students of Bulgarian and Slavic studies, translators, and all those interested in Bulgarian language, literature, history, and culture.

Participants will attend daily language courses and lectures, alongside a rich optional cultural programme including workshops, meetings with writers, museum and gallery visits, thematic walks in Sofia, film screenings, and more. Two optional weekend excursions outside Sofia are also planned.

Participation is free of charge for scholarship holders from the Ministry of education and science of Bulgaria and from Sofia University. For self-funding participants, the fee is EUR 1200, and EUR 900 for accompanying persons. Travel costs and health insurance are not included.

Accommodation will be provided in university dormitories in the Knyazhevo district, with meals organised at the university restaurant in the main building. Public transport cards will be provided for all participants.

Applicants must complete the application form available on the Summer Seminar webpage: https://slav.uni-sofia.bg/leten-seminar/summer_seminar_form_mon/

After completing the form, a PDF file is automatically generated, which must be downloaded and submitted to the applicant’s sending institution.

The official application process is considered complete only after the sending institution approves the application and forwards it to the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria. The Embassy then submits all applications to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria, where the final selection of participants is made.

The Summer Seminar offers an intensive academic and cultural experience dedicated to Bulgarian language and culture in an international environment.
