The Josephine Valencic Scholarship for Voice supports young people of Slovenian heritage in pursuing vocal studies at Cleveland Institute of Music. The fund covers part of the tuition costs and aims to encourage the development of vocal music talent.

The scholarship is named after Josephine Valencic, a singer born in Slovenia who later lived and worked in Cleveland, Ohio. Through her family and her involvement with the Cleveland Slovenian Youth Chorus, she actively promoted Slovenian music, art, and cultural heritage. The scholarship was established in memory of her life and dedication.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants must:

  • be enrolled in voice studies (either as a primary field or in combination with other academic programs),
  • be of Slovenian heritage or connected with a Slovenian organization in the United States,
  • be at least of secondary school age and no older than 32.

The scholarship is awarded for one academic year (two semesters) and may be renewed.

Application process
Candidates applying to the Cleveland Institute of Music must:

  • submit a general application for admission,
  • indicate their interest in financial support from the Josephine Valencic Fund.

Applicants are advised to regularly check the official website for application deadlines and requirements. Eligibility and the final scholarship decision are determined by the Institute based on the application and audition.
