Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) is the leading global provider of specialist higher education and careers information. Activities of QS span over 50 countries and they work with over 2000 of the world’s leading higher education institutions. Their website QS Top Universities is among the most visited websites with higher education information. QS publishes various annual rankings of universities and their study programmes. The rankings are mostly intended for future students, helping them to make a well-informed and reasoned choice of university. QS ranks university performance on the basis of six performance indicators across the following areas: research, teaching, employability and internationalization. Each of the six indicators carries a different weighting when calculating the overall scores. The performance indicator with the highest impact on the overall score of a university and its study programmes is the academic reputation of a university (40 % of the overall score) and employer reputation (10 % of the overall score). QS collects data by means of an international survey among employees of higher education institutions and experts on higher education (76,000 responses), and a survey among employers (38,000 responses) who report employer satisfaction data for the alumni of individual universities.
